Dante and Virgil

William Bouguereau (1825-1905)

Another painting that had me glued to the floor last week at Musee D’Orsay’s “Angel of the Odd - Dark Romanticism from Goya to Max Ernst” exhibit, where Dante-related art was plentiful.

The actual piece is enormous and the color is way off in this jpg, but still. Guh.

I can’t even imagine how breathtaking must it be seeing the actual painting like this one.

“Aurora and Cephalus” by Pierre-Narcisse Guérin, 1811
One of my favorite paintings ever.

I looove this painting for 2 reasons:
it’s done by one of my favorite artists Tara McPherson
it features an eyeball (I don’t know why, but there’s just something I like about eyeballs)
